WordFence is a great security plugin for any WordPress website. I install the free version on all the websites I work on. The free version does a lot to protect a WordPress blog; the premium version does even more.
WordFence regularly provides me with reports of the hackers that they have blocked from trying to get into each website. I’m amazed at the hacking attempts on even very small and local websites. You need it on your WordPress websites too!
